PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS: Summer Cinema in Gdynia – Unique Beachside Film Experience

Autor: Natalia Spychalska

From June 30 to August 12, 2025, film lovers in Gdynia will once again gather on the shores of Orłowo Beach for the 15th edition of the Orłowo Summer Cinema – Poland’s only open-air film series set directly on the sand.

Organized by the Safety Brake Association [Stowarzyszenie Hamulec Bezpieczeństwa] and co-financed by the City of Gdynia, this one-of-a-kind project combines the magic of cinema with the natural beauty of the Baltic coastline. As the sun sets over the sea, the beach transforms into an open-air auditorium where viewers enjoy some of the most acclaimed international films of recent years.

Screenings take place on the Summer Stage (Scena Letnia) of Gdynia’s Municipal Theatre in Orłowo – a venue unlike any other in the country. The 2025 program includes award-winning films from Cannes, Venice, Berlin, and beyond, such as Substance, Conclave, Babygirl, and The Seed of the Sacred Fig.

Each screening begins around 9:30 PM, preceded by a short film selected from the best contemporary productions. Shows are scheduled on Mondays and selected Tuesdays, with tickets available online and a limited number released at the venue shortly before each screening.

The Orłowo Summer Cinema is much more than just a film series – it’s a signature cultural event in Gdynia’s summer calendar. Its unique format – festival-quality cinema in a natural seaside setting – continues to draw both locals and visitors, year after year.

Funded by the City of Gdynia as part of its support for NGO-led cultural initiatives, the project is a prime example of how public funding and civic creativity can work together to enrich local life.

This summer, bring a blanket, feel the sea breeze, and let great cinema wash over you – only in Orłowo.
