Winners of the 50th Gdynia Polish Film Festival Announced

On Saturday, September 27, 2025, during the Closing Gala at the Musical Theatre in Gdynia, the winners of the 50th Polish Film Festival were revealed. The audience and film community learned the names of the laureates of the Golden and Silver Lions, individual prizes, as well as the results of the Perspectives Competition and the Short Film Competition.

Main Awards

Golden Lions – the Grand Prix of the Festival for Best Film went to “Ministranci” (Altar Boys) directed by Piotr Domalewski, produced by Leszek Bodzak, Aneta Hickinbotham, Piotr Walter, and Jarosław Jakubiec.

Silver Lions were awarded to “Franz Kafka” directed by Agnieszka Holland, produced by Sarka Cimbalova, Agnieszka Holland, Marcin Wierzchosławski, and Alicja Jagodzińska.

The Audience Award also went to “Ministranci” by Piotr Domalewski.

  • Screenplay: Piotr Domalewski for “Ministranci”
  • Cinematography: Tomasz Naumiuk for “Franz Kafka”
  • Music: Piotr Szulc “Steez83” for “Three Loves”
  • Production Design: Katarzyna Sobańska, Marcel Sławiński for “Chopin, Chopin!”
  • Sound: Teresa Bagińska, Michał Bagiński, Miłosz Jaroszek for “The Great Warsaw”
  • Editing: Agnieszka Glińska for “Ministranci”
  • Makeup: Gabriela Polakova for “Franz Kafka”
  • Costumes: Magdalena Biedrzycka, Justyna Stolarz for “Chopin, Chopin!”
  • Best Supporting Actress: Karolina Rzepa in “There Are No Ghosts in the Flat on Dobra Street”
  • Best Supporting Actor: Andrzej Konopka in “LARP. Love, Trolls and Other Quests”
  • Best Actress: Matylda Giegżno in “Light-Sensitive”
  • Best Actor: Idan Weiss in “Franz Kafka”
  • Best Acting Debut: Filip Wiłkomirski in “Brother”

The Golden Claw Award named after Andrzej Żuławski went to “There Are No Ghosts in the Flat on Dobra Street” directed by Emi Buchwald, produced by Jerzy Kapuściński and Magdalena Tomanek.

Debuts and Second Films

The jury, chaired by Borys Lankosz, awarded “North South” directed by Sebastian Pańczyk, granting the filmmakers a prize of 15,000 PLN.

Perspectives Competition

The jury, chaired by Milenia Fiedler, awarded:

  • Sapphire Lions to “Glorious Summer” directed by Helena Ganjalyan and Bartosz Szpak (produced by Maria Gołoś and Monika Matuszewska)
  • A Special Award for Outstanding Artistic Contribution to Kuba Grabowski for “North South”

The partner of the Perspectives Competition is KGHM Polska Miedź.

Platinum Lions

The Platinum Lions for Lifetime Achievement were awarded to Ewa Braun.

Short Film Competition

The jury, chaired by Kasia Adamik, awarded:

Honorable Mentions (2,500 PLN each): “People and Things”, dir. Damian Kosowski, and “Dad Is Gone”, dir. Jan Saczek

Lucjan Bokiniec Award for Best Short Film (15,000 PLN, funded by Energa SA, part of the Orlen Group): “SLAP!!”, dir. Mikołaj Piszczan

Special Award (10,000 PLN): “Szmonces o Dybuku”, dir. Maciej Tyburski
