Gdynia in Virtual Reality – 100 Years of City Rights

In Gdynia, an extraordinary project is underway that uses VR technology to engage people with the city’s history and local identity: Gdynia in Virtual Reality – 100 Years of City Rights. The project uses 360° film and virtual reality technology to present Gdynia at the time when it was granted city rights.

PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS: Sensory-Friendly Cinema

The Sensory-Friendly Cinema project at the Gdynia Film Centre creates a space designed for people sensitive to sensory stimuli such as sound, light, or smells. Its purpose is to provide comfortable and inclusive conditions for watching films, particularly for individuals with autism, ADHD, sensory sensitivity, or other challenges in processing external stimuli. The screenings are adapted to meet diverse needs.

PROJECT HIGHLIGTS: Face to Face with European Cinema

The project Face to Face with European Cinema was carried out in partnership with Łódź and film institutions from Valladolid, Terrassa, and Potsdam, with the aim of bringing European cinema closer to young audiences by allowing them to experience the culture of each country represented. The project was designed as a series of large-scale events for children and young people, combining film screenings with cultural happenings.

We now know the winners of the Golden and Silver Lions, the individual awards of the Main Competition, as well as the winners of the Perspectives Competition and the Short Film Competition, all announced at the Closing Gala of the 49th Polish Film Festival on Saturday, September 28, 2024, at the Musical Theatre in Gdynia.

Gdynia at the opening of the National Center of Film Culture in Łódź

On the occasion of the opening of the National Center of Film Culture, we had the pleasure to visit Łódź - our sister city within the UNESCO Creative Cities Network. Alongside the Gdynia delegation, representatives from Galway, Ireland; Potsdam, Germany; Sarajevo, Bosnia; Terrassa and Valladolid, Spain; and Katowice, Poland, visited Łódź.

The Alphabet of Cinema: October/December 2023

The city of Gdynia and the Safety Brake Association, organizers of the Film Criticism Days in Gdynia and the Summer Cinema in Orłowo, invite you to a new autumn-winter series of film screenings dedicated to masters of world cinema. The series started on October 19th with the Iranian film "Holy Spider," followed by the renowned Korean film "Parasite" a week later.

The Winners of the 48th Gdynia Polish Film Festival announced

On September 23, 2023, at the gala in the Musical Theatre in Gdynia, we learned about the winners of this year's awards at the 48th Gdynia Polish Film Festival. The film "Kos" (dir. Paweł Maślona) received the Golden Lions, while the Silver Lions went to "Imago" (dir. Olga Chajdas). The Platinum Lions, awarded for the overall contribution to creativity, were received by the production designer Allan Starski.
