GDYNIA FILM CENTERThe Sensory-Friendly Cinema project at the Gdynia Film Centre creates a space designed for people sensitive to sensory stimuli such as sound, light, or smells. Its purpose is to provide comfortable and inclusive conditions for watching films, particularly for individuals with autism, ADHD, sensory sensitivity, or other challenges in processing external stimuli.
The screenings are adapted to meet diverse needs. Sound is kept at a lower volume to avoid overwhelming effects, and gentle lighting is maintained in the auditorium rather than complete darkness. Flickering lights are minimised, and viewers are free to move around during the film without being required to stay seated. A quiet zone and relaxation area are available for anyone feeling overstimulated, while the layout of the cinema ensures wide aisles, comfortable seating, and spaces adapted for wheelchair users.
Through this initiative, the Gdynia Film Centre promotes equal access to film culture. The project supports people in overcoming barriers to participation and offers opportunities to develop interests, enjoy leisure activities, and build social connections in a safe and welcoming environment.
The red patio next to the building of Gdynia Film Center on Grunwaldzki Square will become the stage for a long list of activities addressed to the inhabitants of the Tri-City and tourists visiting Gdynia.
