POLISH FILM FESTIVALThe Polish Film Festival in Gdynia – the most important event in Poland dedicated to national cinema – will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2025. This milestone offers a unique opportunity to look back at its history, recall groundbreaking moments, and reflect on the spirit and character of the festival. There are many ways to tell the story of the festival – through different perspectives, vibrant memories, and powerful images.
As part of the nationwide project “50 for 50” project, film screenings featuring highlights from the festival’s past editions will take place in 34 cities across Poland – including Gdańsk, Warsaw, Kraków, Sejny, Hrubieszów, Bolesławiec, and Lubomierz.
In total, 57 institutions will take part in this nationwide celebration of Polish cinema.

We’ve decided to mark this special occasion throughout the entire year – not only in Gdynia, because it truly is a celebration for all of us. I’m very proud of the ‘50 for 50’ program, which is so diverse and multifaceted. My heartfelt thanks go to our wonderful partners – cultural centres, film societies, cinemas, festivals, and film schools. Thanks to their support, we’ll be reaching audiences all over Poland – from Sejny to Sucha Beskidzka,” says Joanna Łapińska, Artistic Director of the Polish Film Festival.
The organiser of the “50 for 50” project is the Pomeranian Film Foundation in Gdynia – the producer of the Polish Film Festival. The project was co-financed by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage and the Polish Film Institute.
The main partner of the “50 for 50” project is the National Film Archive – Audiovisual Institute.
The project is organised in partnership with the Documentary and Feature Film Production Company and Telewizja Polska [Polish public broadcaster TVP].

On September 23, 2023, at the gala in the Musical Theatre in Gdynia, we learned about the winners of this year's awards at the 48th Gdynia Polish Film Festival. The film "Kos" (dir. Paweł Maślona) received the Golden Lions, while the Silver Lions went to "Imago" (dir. Olga Chajdas). The Platinum Lions, awarded for the overall contribution to creativity, were received by the production designer Allan Starski.
On September 12-17, 2022, Gdynia will host a great celebration of Polish cinema, the 47th Polish Film Festival. The Festival programme comprises of: two competition sections (Main Competition, Short Film Competition), numerous non-competition sections, as well as accompanying events.
