WINNERS OF THE 49th PFF

We now know the winners of the Golden and Silver Lions, the individual awards of the Main Competition, as well as the winners of the Perspectives Competition and the Short Film Competition, all announced at the Closing Gala of the 49th Polish Film Festival on Saturday, September 28, 2024, at the Musical Theatre in Gdynia.

The Jury of the 49th Polish Film Festival in Gdynia was comprised of:

granted the following awards:

The GRAND PRIZE – GOLDEN LIONS of the 49th Polish Film Festival in Gdynia for Best Film GREEN BORDER went to director Agnieszka Holland and producers Agnieszka Holland, Marcin Wierzchosławski, and Fred Bernstein.

The SILVER LIONS of the 49th Polish Film Festival for the film THE GIRL WITH THE NEEDLE went to director Magnus von Horn and producers Mariusz Włodarski and Malene Blenkov.

INDIVIDUAL AWARDS went to:

  • For directing the film WHITE COURAGE: Marcin Koszałka
  • For screenplay for the film WHITE COURAGE: Łukasz M. Maciejewski, Marcin Koszałka
  • For cinematography for the film THE GIRL WITH THE NEEDLE: Michał Dymek
  • For music for the film THE GIRL WITH THE NEEDLE: Frederikke Hoffmeier
  • For art direction for the film THE GIRL WITH THE NEEDLE: Jagna Dobesz
  • For sound for the film GREEN BORDER: Roman Dymny
  • For editing the film WROOKLYN ZOO: Sebastian Mialik
  • For make-up for the film KULEJ. ALL THAT GLITTERS ISN’T GOLD: Agnieszka Hodowana
  • For costume design for the film THE GIRL WITH THE NEEDLE: Małgorzata Fudala
  • For an actress in a supporting role in the film THE GIRL WITH THE NEEDLE: Trine Dyrholm
  • For an actor in a supporting role in the film WHITE COURAGE: Julian Świeżewski
  • For an actress in a leading role in the film WHITE COURAGE: Sandra Drzymalska
  • For an actor in a leading role in the film SPARROW: Jacek Borusiński
  • For professional acting debut in the film UNDER THE VOLCANO: Sofiia Berezowska

Special Mention of the Jury of the Main Competition was granted to Nel Kaczmarek for her role in the film LOSS OF BALANCE, directed by Korek Bojanowski.

SAPPHIRE LIONS of the 49th Polish Film Festival in Gdynia went to TRAVEL ESSENTIALS, directed by Kamila Tarabura, producers Andrzej Muszyński, Michael Eckelt, and Lennart Lenzing.

Award for an Outstanding Artistic Contribution for Maciej Damięcki for his role in the film NIGHT SILENCE, directed by Bartosz M. Kowalski.

Partners of the Perspectives Competition are KGHM Polska Miedź and HORTEX.Platinum Lions Award for Lifetime Achievement went to Wojciech Marczewski.

  • Special Award: Lament No. 1, directed by Jakub Jakubik.
  • Special Award: Nothing Serious, directed by Kamil Czudej.

The 47th Polish Film Festival in Gdynia

On September 12-17, 2022, Gdynia will host a great celebration of Polish cinema, the 47th Polish Film Festival. The Festival programme comprises of: two competition sections (Main Competition, Short Film Competition), numerous non-competition sections, as well as accompanying events.

The Winners of the 48th Gdynia Polish Film Festival announced

On September 23, 2023, at the gala in the Musical Theatre in Gdynia, we learned about the winners of this year's awards at the 48th Gdynia Polish Film Festival. The film "Kos" (dir. Paweł Maślona) received the Golden Lions, while the Silver Lions went to "Imago" (dir. Olga Chajdas). The Platinum Lions, awarded for the overall contribution to creativity, were received by the production designer Allan Starski.
