OTHER PROJECTSThe “100 Years in Ten Scenes. Gdynia Map” animated film workshops took place in August 2025, giving young participants a unique opportunity to explore the history of Gdynia through film. Over the course of a week, teenagers aged 15-18 engaged with a variety of historical and cultural themes – from the daily life of a farming and fishing village, summer visitors on the beach, and the city’s port construction, to sailors’ experiences abroad, the events of December ’70, and the city’s local film festival.
The workshops were designed to combine creativity with historical knowledge, providing a platform for personal expression and artistic exploration.
Under the guidance of experienced animators from KAZstudio, Karolina Branecka and Stanisław Szostak, participants created short stop-motion films. The process began with a visit to the Museum of the City of Gdynia to explore the exhibition “Gdynia – An Open Work,” and continued in the Gdynia Animation Center at Gołębia Street 9. Each participant focused on a different aspect of the city’s hundred-year history, contributing to a visually cohesive animated mosaic through careful selection of materials, colors, and animation style.
This was the third edition of the educational film project, following the successful creation of animated films in previous years that brought modernist buildings and architectural details of Gdynia’s city center to life. The 2025 workshops marked another step in inspiring young talent, encouraging them to discover the possibilities of stop-motion animation while celebrating Gdynia’s centenary through their own creative lens.
